“Safe as a Milk” fue el debut de Captain Beefheart & his Magic Band. Publicado en 1967, el álbum, cargado de sonidos psicodélicos, garage y blues supuso una bocanada de aire fresco en la época. Contiene 13 canciones grabadas en los RCA Studios de Los Angeles más los 7 bonus tracks con los que cuenta ésta reedición en Cd del 1999. Un jovencísimo Ry Cooder aparece con su guitarra y slide, colaborando también como bajista en el tema “Abba Zaba”.

Safe As Milk includes a.o. the following tracks: “Sure ’nuff ‘n Yes I Do”, “Call On Me”, “Plastic Factory”, “Where There’s Woman” and more. This vinyl celebrates the 50th anniversary Captain Beefheart’s debut album (1967), is the most accessible and Pop-inflected from his entire catalogue. Still, ’Safe As Milk’ is a heavily Blues-influenced work and with features that would later become his trademarks. The record features a 20-year old Ry Cooder and Taj Mahal. The 7 bonus tracks are taken from the sessions for the unreleased ‘Brown Wrapper’ follow-up album.
