Publicado en el año 2007 por Roadrunner Records «The Blackening» es el título del sexto trabajo de estudio de la banda estadounidense de metal procedente de California Machine Head. Producido por Colin Richardson (Napalm Death, Sepultura, Slipknot) y el guitarrista y vocalista del grupo Robb Flynn contiene 8 canciones, entre ellas los singles «Now I Lay Thee Down», «Aesthetics of Hate» y «Halo».

Burn My Eyes by Machine Head, released 8 August 1994, includes the following tracks: «A Thousand Lies», «The Rage To Overcome», «A Nmation On Fire», «I’m Your God Now» and more. As one the most successful bands in the heavy metal scene Machine Head changed their musical style from their trash sound to melodies which incorporates rapping vocals. The Burning Red is an musical experiment with disco drums, crooning vocals and funky basslines. But their progressive sound can still be found in the tribal beat and guitar melodies of a song like “The Blood, the Sweat, the Tears”. It’s heavy sound is combined with subtle melodies and some groovy rhythms, but there are also rapping structures as in “Desire to Fire”.
