Reeditado por Vinyl Passion en el año 2015 «California Suite» es el título de éste álbum de Mel Torme’s, publicado originalmente en 1957. Mel escribió ésta suite por primera vez en 1949 como una pieza de 20 minutos, con Peggy Lee como vocalista y ocho años más tarde, Marty Paich, con mucha más influencia en el jazz, la arregló y dirigió. Contiene 13 cortes junto a la orquesta The Bethlehem.

Mel Tormé first wrote this suite dedicated to the Golden State as a twenty-minute piece in 1949, with Peggy Lee providing vocals. Eight years later this LP-length version was arranged and conducted by Marty Paich, with much more Jazz influence than was evident in the original recording. Although there are many sections in ’California Suite’ that stand as individual musical entities, such as ’Poor Little Extra Girl’, ‘Got The Date On The Golden Gate’ and ’They Go To San Diego’, the composition is a complete work that deserves to be listened to in that way.
